The Baroque Festival's upcoming Fall Organ Benefit Concert
features organist Bruce Sawhill in the sonorous company of trumpet
soloists Guy Clark and Kathryn James-Adduci. This program of
mostly baroque-period repertoire will offer a mixture of organ solo pieces,
pieces for organ and 1 or 2 trumpets, and trumpet solos. Highlights include
two of the great Bach Preludes and Fugues (G Major and G Minor), along
with two uncommonly-performed Baroque pieces: a Canzona by J.S. Bach and a
Passacaglia by Buxtehude, both for organ. The selection of brass and
organ pieces will include works by Stanley, Purcell,
Vivaldi, Telemann, and others. Featured in addition to
all-baroque works is the haunting "Prayer of St. Gregory" by Alan
Hovhaness, a work that is neoclassical in structure. Click Here for more
program information.
All proceeds from this annual organ concert will benefit
the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival, a community non-profit arts organization now
in its 37th season. Tickets are $20 and available here. (Tickets for youth K-12 may be purchased for $2
at the door only.)
