A Tropical Affair
Sunday, May 26, 2013 from 5pm
Featuring the award-winning Gamelan Anak Swarasanti

View: Event Poster

Following its popular Spanish-themed Flamenco Fiesta (2012) the Baroque Festival now presents a 'music in the gardens' party with a South-East Asian flair. This event offers an evening of music and dance of Indonesia, along with snacks and wine poured by Hallcrest Vineyards. The featured ensemble is Gamelan Anak Swarasanti, an award-winning Balinese gamelan orchestra performing professionally throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond in a wide variety of settings. Based in Santa Cruz, the group has its origins in UCSC's teaching gamelan, Gamelan Swarasanti - the name "Anak Swarasanti" means "Child of Swarasanti." This celebration marks the conclusion of the Baroque Festival's 40th anniversary season and takes place in the tropical garden of the festival's Artistic Director. Address provided to ticket holders.

About Anak Swarasanti: "Absolutely awesome. . . magical sounds of bells and gongs in mesmerizing rhythms and patterns." -- SF Raves

Note: Tickets are still available at the event gate from 4:45pm. The event location is 2005 Ocean Street Extension, in Santa Cruz, CA 95060.

The grounds of Boomeria are full of surprises, including a wonderful pipe organ inside its Chapel Royal. A selection of performers brings to life the repertoire and spirit of this centuries-old synthesizer, and visitors have the opportunity to explore the organ's insides. Enjoy a unique afternoon with hours of organ music, refreshments, and wine, surrounded by the Bonny Doon area forest. Location: Private residence (address provided to ticket holders). Fall Benefit Concert

Featuring members of Lux Musica (flute, violin, cello), and the Kirby Chamber Choir (Drew Lewis, director)

View: Event Poster

The Baroque Festival kicks off its 40th concert season with '$40 for Forty.' This elegant afternoon affair begins with cookies and coffee for early arrivers. Members of Lux Musica will offer music by Haydn and Bach (on flute, violin, and cello), complemented by choral selections from the acclaimed Kirby Chamber Choir. Appetizers and wine poured by Hallcrest Vineyards will provide the culinary counterpoint to this part social, part musical celebration.

The Baroque Festival has served the Santa Cruz community since 1974, marking its 40th annual concert season in spring of 2013. The Festival's December 2 event is both a celebration of this upcoming anniversary, as well as a fundraiser for the season. A limited amount of tickets is available at these outlets. The ticket price is $40 ;-) Location: Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County (7807 Soquel Drive, Aptos).
