Across 3 centuries, the mandolin 'naturally' traveled throughout Europe and North America with immigrants, and was adopted by folk musicians nearly everywhere. Evoking the delights of al fresco concerts, the mandolin also caught the attention of Vivaldi, Beethoven and other composers (more program information). As a prelude to our mandolin tour, we will also present the grand prize winners of our Youth Chamber Music Competition.

Friday, March 13, 2009: Join us for an exclusive artist dinner and musical interlude with Caterina Lichtenberg and Mirko Schrader. A pre-concert fundraiser with dinner, desserts & wine. Advance reservations only ($50/person). Please view the invitation and reservation form for more information.

A musical voyage through inner space with Johann Sebastian Bach's last and most 'cosmic' work is accompanied by a visual journey through the universe with recent views of the galaxy from earth and space, provided by renowned UCSC astronomer Raja GuhaThakurta. Sounding from nearly 4 centuries ago, Bach's vivid counterpoint is mirrored by the visual data of telescopes, acting as time machines by revealing our universe's rich and mysterious past (more program information).
